3. SIWES (PRACTICAL ATTACHMENT)
All Diploma and Advanced Diploma students are required to undertake a 10-week minimum practical training SIWES (Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme) under a registered practitioner as a part of the Supervised Clinical Experience (SCE) Course. Students unable to attend weekly are expected to fulfill a minimum of 30 supervised visits. Centers must be approved by the College.

At Cyrillic College, practical exposure is a cornerstone of learning. All Diploma, Advanced Diploma, and Certificate programs require students to undergo Supervised Industrial Work Experience (SIWES) or Supervised Clinical Experience (SCE) as part of their training. This ensures that every student graduates with not only theoretical knowledge but also hands-on competence.

Purpose of SIWES/SCE

  • To expose students to real-world professional practice in Complementary and Integrative Healthcare (CIH).
  • To develop confidence, discipline, and work ethics in clinical and wellness environments.
  • To bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and workplace realities.
  • To prepare students for employment, self-practice, and entrepreneurship in CIH.

Eligible SIWES/SCE Centers

Students are only permitted to undertake SIWES/SCE at centers approved by the College. Centers must demonstrate capacity to provide professional training and supervision.

  • Seminar Presentation (20%)

Non-Compliance

Failure to complete SIWES/SCE, unauthorized placement at unapproved centers, or misconduct during posting will result in nullification of the exercise and possible disciplinary action.

Practical Demonstrations vs SIWES

Students should note the distinction between practical demonstration lectures and the Supervised Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).

  • Practical Demonstrations: These are college-arranged, compulsory teaching sessions for select skill-based courses (e.g., Acupuncture, Magnet Therapy Techniques, Chiropractic Techniques, Reflexology, Massage Therapy, Herbal Formulation). These sessions are supervised by appointed lecturers or demonstrators engaged by the College. Attendance is compulsory and forms part of course evaluation.
  • SIWES: This is a compulsory field placement in approved external centers where students gain extended, real-life practical exposure. SIWES is distinct from classroom demonstrations and cannot be substituted. The College does not make payments to SIWES centers, and students must not expect the College to fund external placements.

Important: Both Demonstrations and SIWES are compulsory for all students, regardless of prior experience or practitioner status. There are no exemptions. Students outside Nigeria must arrange placement in an approved facility within their country of residence, subject to verification by the College.

The College maintains this policy to uphold the integrity of its programs and to ensure that all graduates have verifiable, standardized practical exposure.
